Job Title: Head of Linux and Storage Engineering
Location: Midtown, NYC
Role Overview:
We’re looking for an experienced Head of Linux and Storage Engineering to lead a team responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-level Linux infrastructure and storage solutions. This critical role will drive the strategic vision for Linux environments, enhance system performance, bolster security, and ensure seamless business continuity. The ideal candidate is a technical leader skilled in Linux and storage solutions, with a commitment to operational excellence and strong leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Linux and storage engineers.
- Cultivate a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented culture within the team.
- Manage workforce planning, including hiring, skill development, and resource allocation.
Technical Strategy and Implementation:
- Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for Linux and storage systems aligned with business objectives.
- Lead the evaluation and deployment of Linux and storage solutions focused on scalability, security, and performance.
- Design and oversee high-availability, fault-tolerant systems and disaster recovery strategies.
Operational Excellence:
- Ensure system reliability, availability, and peak performance for Linux and storage environments.
- Define and enforce best practices for systems management, including patching, backups, and compliance.
- Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention in Linux and storage operations.
Security and Compliance:
- Collaborate with security teams to maintain compliance with regulatory and security standards.
- Implement and manage access controls, patching, and configurations following industry standards.
- Proactively monitor and respond to vulnerabilities or suspicious activity in systems.
Budget and Vendor Management:
- Oversee the Linux and storage operations budget, focusing on cost-effectiveness and optimization.
- Establish and maintain vendor relationships for hardware, software, and support contracts.
- Evaluate vendor solutions and negotiate contracts to ensure scalable and cost-effective services.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, focusing on Linux and storage solutions.
- 5+ years in a leadership role managing Linux and/or storage teams.
Technical Skills:
- Expert-level knowledge of Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) and shell scripting.
- Strong expertise in enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NAS, distributed storage, and backups).
- Familiarity with high-availability architecture, clustering, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with virtualization, containerization, and cloud platforms (e.g., VMware, Kubernetes, AWS).
- Proficient in infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet).
Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with the capability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to manage complex projects and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Certifications:
- Linux certification (e.g., RHCE, LFCE).
- Storage certifications (e.g., NetApp, EMC, Pure Storage).
- Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Architect).
